A landmark collaboration has been announced between K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN and globally beloved cartoon franchise 'The Smurfs'.
On October 28 KST, PLEDIS Entertainment revealed that SEVENTEEN will be partnering with Peyo Company, the rights holder of 'The Smurfs', to release a series of collaborative content projects.
The first release will be a Smurfs collaboration version of SEVENTEEN’s “God of Music” music video, set to be unveiled next month. Interestingly, both The Smurfs’ creation date and the release date of “God of Music” fall on October 23, symbolizing harmony and coexistence—an idea that inspired the project.
The teaser already revealed silhouettes of 13 new Smurf characters, sparking curiosity among fans. These characters will be themed after SEVENTEEN’s 13 members, blending the Smurfs’ iconic blue skin, small stature, and magical charm with the unique personalities of each member.
Fans can also look forward to special edition Smurf merchandise based on the collaboration characters. Each Smurf will represent a SEVENTEEN member in look and spirit, combining nostalgic charm with modern K-pop flair.
The Smurfs, originally created in 1958 by Belgian artist and storyteller Pierre Culliford, also known as Peyo, have remained beloved across generations through comic series, animated shows, and major films.
PLEDIS Entertainment shared:
“This collaboration is grounded in shared values between SEVENTEEN and The Smurfs—teamwork, friendship, inclusion, joy, and cooperation. We hope fans around the world will look forward to the synergy between SEVENTEEN, who have spread messages of positivity and unity through music, and the Smurfs, who symbolize hope and happiness.”
This marks yet another major global collaboration for SEVENTEEN in 2023. Earlier this year:
- In Japan, SEVENTEEN partnered with Sanrio to launch a themed BE@RBRICK collection featuring characters representing each member.
- In China, the group collaborated with TeddyTales, a premium plush brand, to create BongBong Bear, based on their official light stick character “BongBong-ie.”
These partnerships reflect SEVENTEEN’s growing influence as not just musicians, but cultural icons with powerful global reach.
