[Spoiler Alert: Episode Summary]

This article contains plot points and episode summaries from ‘Surely Tomorrow’ Episode 4.

'Surely Tomorrow' has reached its highest viewership rating in just four episodes, despite debuting in the low 2% range. The JTBC drama, 'Sure Tomorrow,' starring Park Seo Joon and Won Ji An, has been steadily climbing in ratings since its premiere on July 6.

The series follows Lee Gyeong Do (played by Park Seo Jun) and Seo Ji Woo (played by Won Ji An), former lovers who dated twice in their twenties before breaking up. Years later, they reunite under awkward circumstances—as a journalist who reported on an adultery scandal and the wife of the man at the center of that scandal.

According to Nielsen Korea, episode 1, which aired on July 7, recorded a nationwide rating of 2.7% among paid households. From episode 2 onward, the drama has maintained ratings in the 3% range. Episode 4 marked a new personal best, posting 3.9% nationwide and 3.7% in the Seoul metropolitan area.

Gyeong Do Becomes Ji Woo’s “Shield”

Episode 4 depicted Gyeongdo stepping up as a steadfast protector for his first love, Ji Woo. After Ji Woo collapses alone at home, she regains consciousness with the help of Gyeong Do and Se Young (played by Lee Joo Young). Even as Ji Woo lashes out in irritation, Gyeongdo firmly throws out all the alcohol in her house, delivering a concerned and heartfelt scolding.

Drawing on his own experience of overcoming a lost and aimless life with the support of his mother Jo Nam Suk (played by Kim Mi Kyung) and his eccentric circle of friends—Park Se Young, Cha Woo Sik (played by Kang Ki Doong), and Lee Jung Min (played by Jo Min Guk)—Gyeong Do resolves to help Ji Woo get her life back on track. As he voluntarily takes on the role of her guardian, Ji Woo finds herself deep in thought. Ultimately, she tells Gyeongdo of her decision to return to the UK.

Tension escalates when Ji Woo’s ex-husband Jo Jin Eon (played by Oh Dong Min) shows up at her home unannounced. Faced with his blatant verbal humiliation, Ji Woo is left unable to respond, heightening viewers’ frustration. At that moment, Gyeongdo arrives and shocks everyone with an unexpected declaration to Jo Jin Eon: “I’m flirting with her. And I’m giving it my all.

Ratings on the Rise—What’s Driving the Buzz?

The drama initially won viewers over with the fresh, youthful romance between Ji Woo and Gyeong Do. Nostalgia plays a key role, with early-2000s elements such as MP3 players, wired earphones, campus scenery, and Sung Si Kyung’s iconic song "Two People" woven into the narrative.

Particular attention has been drawn to Won Ji An, who takes on her first-ever leading role—and her first romantic comedy—with this series. From her very first appearance, she has made a strong impression with a distinctive presence, earning widespread attention. Unlike the typical cold and polished chaebol heiress seen in many dramas, her character is bold, outspoken, and refreshingly unconventional, adding depth and dimension to the story.

At the production press conference held on July 4, director Lim Hyun Wook shared his confidence in the project. “This was one of the scripts I liked the most in recent years,” he said. “And because we cast actors who could truly bring it to life, I feel confident presenting it to viewers.”

He added, “The story that Park Seo Joon and Won Ji An create is incredibly funny, yet also poignant and sad. It wasn’t just because Park Seo Joon is a famous actor—I was impressed by how deeply he understood the script and the determination he showed. That’s when I felt certain he would pull it off.
