Actress Moon So Ri is stepping forward to spotlight the global food crisis after being appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
The WFP Korea Office announced on December 17 that Moon So Ri was officially named a WFP Goodwill Ambassador. An appointment ceremony was held earlier that morning at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
The World Food Programme is the world’s largest humanitarian organization, operating in more than 120 countries worldwide. It saves lives during emergencies and provides food assistance to people affected by conflict, disasters, and climate crises. In 2020, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts.
Moon So Ri shared her firsthand experiences visiting WFP project sites in Kenya. She first began working with WFP earlier this year and traveled to Kenya in October, where she observed food aid operations at the Kakuma Refugee Camp. She also visited long-term development and recovery programs in Nairobi and the Lodwar region.
“Through the refugees I met in Kenya, I deeply realized once again that food is not just a single meal, but something that represents hope, courage, and our shared human connection,” Moon said.
She continued, “I witnessed firsthand the reality that many refugees are unable to receive even the most basic meals due to a lack of funding. I felt an urgent need for greater public attention. As a WFP Goodwill Ambassador, I want to help raise awareness about the reality of hunger and spread the importance of solidarity and collective action.”
Lee Hyun Ji, head of the WFP Korea Office, praised Moon’s long-standing engagement with social issues. “We are truly delighted to welcome Moon So Ri as part of the WFP family,” she said. “Walking this path together will be a meaningful step forward in our journey toward a world without hunger.”
As a WFP Goodwill Ambassador, Moon So Ri is expected to take part in domestic and international campaigns and promotional activities. A WFP official stated, “She will join various initiatives aimed at raising awareness about the urgency of responding to food crises and encouraging global solidarity and participation.”
