Veteran actress Yoon Seok Hwa has passed away following a battle with a brain tumor. She was 69. She had continued her treatment by choosing natural therapies instead of chemotherapy.
Yoon died at 9:54 AM on December 19 at Sinchon Severance Hospital in Seoul. Her family members and close acquaintances were by her side in her final moments.
She collapsed during a business trip to the United Kingdom after performing in the stage play 'Hamlet' in 2022 and was diagnosed with a brain tumor later that year. Afterward, she chose to fight the illness through natural and dietary therapies.
At the time, Yoon requested to be discharged from the hospital, saying, “Even if I live just one day, I want to live as myself.” She pursued healing methods of her own choosing, including mugwort moxibustion, health drinks, walking, and sharing meals with close friends.

In an interview, she spoke calmly, saying, “Everyone has the right to live as themselves and to die as themselves. I don’t want to be trapped by illness.”
She also shared candidly, “Every morning I screamed from the pain of injections and found myself hating someone. Starting a day like that isn’t living. Even if it’s just a week, I wanted to live as myself.”
“I have no desire to fight cancer,” she said. “Since we’ve met anyway, I wanted to be friends with it—and when it’s time to part, to quietly say, ‘Goodbye.’”
Meanwhile, Yoon Seok Hwa has appeared in various projects in the theater and musical sectors. She has also made an impression on the SBS drama 'The Penthouse.'
