Police have launched an investigation into allegations of a personal data leak involving broadcaster Park Na Rae’s former boyfriend.
According to the complainant on December 17, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul accepted a complaint accusing Park Na Rae’s ex-boyfriend, identified only as Mr. A, of violating the Personal Information Protection Act. The case has been assigned to the station’s Intelligent Crime Investigation Team 1, which has begun an official investigation.
The complainant also filed charges against unidentified accomplices who may have been involved in the case, including those suspected of instigation or aiding and abetting. The complaint requests that authorities clearly determine whether the process by which personal information was provided, as well as how it was used during the investigation, complied with the law.
The allegations stem from claims raised on a YouTube channel, which asserted that amid a series of controversies and legal disputes involving Park Na Rae, including accusations of workplace abuse raised by former managers, the so called “Itaewon single family home theft case” served as the trigger for the situation. The case involves a residence reportedly valued at around 5.5 billion KRW (approximately 4 million USD).
During the broadcast, it was alleged that personal information provided to Mr. A by Park Na Rae’s former managers, who reportedly believed it was needed for employment contract registration purposes, was later submitted to police during an investigation as material used to designate a suspect.
In response, the complainant stated that they filed the complaint to request a thorough investigation by authorities into whether the suspicions raised in related broadcasts and reports are true, and whether any violations of personal data protection laws occurred.
