The first episodes of the long-awaited drama, 'Scarlet Heart: Ryeo', has finally aired, and talk about the drama is firing up online communities everywhere. It seems like some of the actors, specifically IU and EXO's Baekhyun, are failing to live up to the high expectations set by the drama's build up.

Many viewers complained about the idol actors' awkward, unnatural performances, demanding that the two solely focus on music from now on.

Comments stated, "I thought they were competing to see who is the worse actor..Seriously, don't act from now on", "Heol... Baekhyun, acting is not for you", "They both suck so bad. It's shocking", "Wtf is this? Baekhyun doesn't understand his character at all. They probably used him to gain higher viewer ratings but I seriously just can't watch it whenever he comes on", etc.

I honestly think they did fine. Not amazingly great, but not awful either. Of course I'm a big fan of both of them, but if you say that I'm being biased, that is not true. It's Baekhyun's second or third time acting only and he still needs time to learn. IU has started a bit earlier, but her acting is not bad enough to ruin the drama. The backlash they are getting is obviously from people who don't like them. Only a few may have good intentions.

Yeah, it's bad.

Everyone needs to stop criticising IU and Baekhyun for their acting. Yes, their acting is not on par with the other experienced actors but I think they're doing really well and trying very hard to catch up to their seniors. They are known as idols so their sole focus is not acting, they don't make a living out of acting. The fact that they are trying hard despite their busy schedules is good enough. They are definitely more talented and hardworking than a lot of other celebrities as they can act, sing and dance! People need to stop criticising and be more supportive, give them some positive feedback so they can improve. They are probably very stressed and pressured just from being worried that their not doing a good enough job and then there's also people who are criticising them so they feel like they need to live up to the audience's expectations. Give them some slack and be supportive!

IU is amazingly talented; great singer and a beautiful girl. However I disagree with your "give them some slack and be supportive". It is very clear from this drama that IU is "not great" or even "bad" at acting. Being supportive doesn't necessarily mean we can't give constructive criticism. I've been a fan of her for quite a while and I agree with the comments that her acting is quite horrible in this particular drama, and why is that? Lack of facial emotions- constantly enlarging her eyes etc. This is constructive criticism because we're pointing out where she went wrong. And yes, they DO NEED TO live up to the audience's expectations and I will tell you why. It is their job(literally); they're entertainers. THAT IS THE POINT. Just as you would expect good service from a waitress we also expect good songs/acting from our idols. Excessive hate is unecessary but telling the idols that their acting in this drama is bad because -list the reasons- can give them insight on future work.

When I saw episode 9, I was Reallly disappointed at IU. Her acting is really poor. I CAN'T realize why so many people speak for her.

Oh come, they just find. Please stop comparing Chinese version & korean version. Let just enjoy the drama.

Baekhyun is alright since his character is playful. Although I love IU, I have to say it is pretty bad. I watched both korean and chinese ver. IU's acting is exaggerating and does not portrait the character well, or maybe that's the script. In the chinese ver., you can clearly see how the character evolves over time. From childish to mature and able to handle stuff. In k ver., IU's character is just being noisy the whole time. Again, IU could be just following the script. In my opinion, IU is too cute for this. According to the chinese ver., the drama gets pretty intense later on, and I don't think IU can portrait that well.

Honestly, if people don't understand that Baekhyun is playing a childlike funny character, and doing it well, then they aren't paying attention.

Personally, i think baekhyun's acting is fine, so does IU. I'm surprised they can act well enough. About the ratings of drama, many factors caused it. And i think one of them is about the other drama storyline is more exciting to watch. For now, i'm enjoy watching those two great dramas 😊

My opinion, iu's acting is fine & natural, not bad..but for baekhyun, maybe because it's his first time doing a drama, sometimes i feel cringy watching his acting....
