On August 18, the production team of the upcoming drama 'Twelve,' which is set to premiere on August 23, released pre-release footage from Episode 1, offering a glimpse into the series.
'Twelve' is an action hero drama inspired by the Eastern zodiac. It tells the story of twelve angels who live in human form to protect mankind while fighting against the forces of evil. The series had already drawn attention for securing a simultaneous broadcast on KBS 2TV and Disney+. The cast includes Ma Dong Seok, Park Hyung Sik, Seo In Guk, Sung Dong Il, Lee Joo Bin, Go Kyu Pil, Kang Mi Na, Sung Yoo Bin, Ahn Ji Hye, and Regina Lei.
The pre-release clip highlighted the powerful presence of Ma Dong Seok’s character, Tae San, who represents the tiger and serves as the leader of the twelve guardian angels. Bearing the pain of losing comrades in a past battle against evil forces, Tae San now lives quietly in the human world, running Angel Capital. This firm lends money exclusively to gangsters, criminals, and wrongdoers, and always collects it back in full.
In the footage, Tae San introduces himself with a sly smile and the line, “This is Angel Capital,” while wearing a bold tiger-print outfit that immediately establishes his character’s aura. Walking confidently into a prison visiting room to meet a debtor, he confronts Jo Yang Soo (played by Shin Seung Hwan) and demands repayment. When Yang Soo sneers, “You really came all the way here to collect money? That’s ridiculous. Just leave,” Tae San calmly replies, “If today passes, your debt will rise to 2.2 billion won (1.6 million USD).”
Jo Yang Soo tries to brush off the demand, joking, “This is the first time I’ve seen such a creative loan shark who visits prison cells. Once I get out, I’ll work part-time and pay back everything with interest.” In response, Tae San removes his sunglasses, revealing his true nature. “At Angel Capital, we only lend money to thugs, gangsters, and criminals like you,” he says, adding, “In the past 100 years that I’ve been doing this job, I’ve never once failed to collect.” His words both intimidate and hint at his mysterious longevity.
The short clip alone showcased Ma Dong Seok’s overwhelming charisma and wit, heightening anticipation for this summer’s Korean-style hero drama and the exploits of the twelve guardian angels. Viewers who watched the footage left reactions such as, “What is this refreshing concept?” “Disney’s lineup is strong these days,” “It’s great to see more investment in Korean dramas,” “Curious how they’ll collect debts,” and “Perfect as a weekend drama.”
The drama had already kicked off promotions on August 15 with 'K-Hero: Twelve Begins,' a highlight special featuring cast interviews and behind-the-scenes talk. With the addition of this pre-release footage, expectations continue to rise.
'Twelve' will premiere on August 23 at 9:20 PM KST on KBS 2TV, and will be available globally on Disney+ immediately after broadcast.
