'Repeat Restaurant' is set to release a video addressing the controversy surrounding an allegedly "rude" restaurant in Yeosu.
On July 18, Studio Suze, which operates the YouTube show 'Repeat Restaurant,' hosted by Pung Ja, announced via its community page, “Live update. Met with the victim involved in the Yeosu incident. The video will be released tomorrow at 6:30 PM.”
Along with the announcement, the production team shared a photo showing 'Repeat Restaurant' host Pung Ja sitting down for a conversation with YouTuber 'A,' who was harassed for eating alone at a Yeosu restaurant recently recommended on the 'Repeat Restaurant ' channel.
YouTuber 'A' had previously uploaded a video of their visit to the restaurant introduced by 'Repeat Restaurant.' In the video, 'A' ordered a meal for two but was criticized for dining alone. Due to the restaurant owner’s repeated pressure, 'A' ultimately left without finishing the meal.
In the video uploaded by the YouTuber, the restaurant owner incessantly comments about the YouTuber dining alone, despite her ordering a serving size for two. The YouTuber was visibly anxious and showed signs of discomfort, with her hands shaking. After leaving the restaurant, the YouTuber shed tears, sharing that this was the first time she had ever experienced such rudeness in Yeosu.
As the controversy grew, Kim Seung Ho, Team Leader of Food Sanitation Inspection, Department of Food Sanitation of Yeosu City, stated, "The operator is 78 years old and the cook is over 60. The restaurant owner stated she was telling the YouTuber to eat quickly and leave, since there is a reservation, without any ill intention. However, her tone seemed to have been misunderstood, causing this issue."
Following the statement from the head of Yeosu City’s Food Sanitation Division, netizens continued to voice criticism, pointing out that the restaurant owner's irritable tone pressured the YouTuber to leave after just 20 minutes. Many also argued that the owner’s age does not justify her rude treatment of customers.
With continued criticism growing toward the restaurant, Yeosu City's council member Lee Seok Joo also stepped in. He stated, “In response to the recent controversy over customer service at a local restaurant, the city of Yeosu has issued an official notice requesting restaurant owners and staff to improve their service practices.”
