Singer and actress Son Dam Bi is set to return to the drama scene for the first time in seven years.
According to an exclusive report by OSEN on March 11, Son Dam Bi is currently filming a short-form drama, with Ko Joo Won cast as her male lead. The project marks her first drama appearance since delivering a career-defining performance as Choi Hyang Mi in the hit KBS2 series 'When the Camellia Blooms' in 2019.
Earlier, on March 10, Son Dam Bi also shared an update from the filming set through social media. Posting photos of a surprise coffee truck sent by her husband, she wrote, “A surprise coffee truck prepared by my husband. I’m sooo happy. I’ll work hard filming the drama. Love you, husband.” Her husband is former speed skating national team athlete Lee Kyou Hyuk.

Ko Joo Won, who plays opposite Son Dam Bi, has previously appeared in several short-form dramas, including 'Falling for the Janitor Everyone Looked Down On' with Park Han Byul. Attention is now turning to the on-screen chemistry that the two actors will showcase in the upcoming series.
Short-form dramas have recently been gaining traction in the industry due to their cost efficiency and streamlined production process. Notably, director Lee Byung Hun, known for the film 'Extreme Job' and the drama 'Be Melodramatic,' recently released a short-form drama titled 'My Bestfriend is the Baby's Dad (tentative English title).' Meanwhile, acclaimed filmmaker Lee Joon Ik, who directed the landmark Korean film 'The King and the Clown,' is also participating in a short drama project titled 'Father’s Home Cooking.' It has also been reported that actor Lee Sang Yeob and NCT members Jeno and Jaemin are appearing in the short-form series 'Wind Up.'
Although Son Dam Bi is currently active as an actress, she first rose to fame as a singer with numerous hit songs. She debuted in 2007 with the single 'Cry Eye' and gained widespread popularity with tracks such as "Crazy," "Saturday Night," and "Queen."
She later began pursuing acting alongside her music career, appearing in the SBS drama 'Dream.' Following the release of her third digital single, 'Red Candle' in 2013, she shifted her focus primarily to acting.

As an actress, Son Dam Bi went on to appear in dramas such as 'What Happens to My Family?,' 'Yumi's Room,' 'Mrs. Cop 2,' and 'Witch at Court.' In 2019, she solidified her reputation with her role in 'When the Camellia Blooms,' which is widely considered one of her most notable works.
In the drama, Son Dam Bi portrayed Choi Hyang Mi, a character shaped by hardship and societal prejudice. Her realistic and emotionally layered performance earned widespread praise from viewers. The series also featured a star-studded cast, including Gong Hyo Jin and Kang Ha Neul.
With a heartfelt story that resonated with audiences, 'When the Camellia Blooms' became a major hit, recording a peak nationwide viewership rating of 23.8 percent according to Nielsen Korea. Son Dam Bi later won the Best New Actress award at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards for her performance.
Although she continued to receive offers after the drama’s success, Son Dam Bi temporarily stepped away from acting following her marriage to Lee Kyou Hyuk, along with her pregnancy and childbirth. She previously revealed that she faced difficulties during in vitro fertilization treatments due to starting the process at a later age, but she ultimately welcomed a precious daughter.
With Son Dam Bi returning to television for the first time in seven years, viewers are now eager to see what kind of performance she will deliver in her long-awaited comeback.
