Singer and producer J.Y. Park announced his resignation as an internal director of JYP Entertainment.

On March 10, JYP Entertainment said that J.Y. Park will not seek reappointment as an internal director at the company’s shareholders’ meeting scheduled for March 26. Following the decision, he will remain the founder of JYP Entertainment and continue serving as the company’s Chief Creative Officer (CCO).

The company stated that J.Y. Park plans to devote more time to his creative work as an artist, mentoring younger performers, and engaging in external initiatives related to the global K-pop industry.

J.Y. Park debuted in 1994 with the song “Don’t Leave Me, Don’t Leave Me.” Over the years, he released numerous hit tracks including “Honey,” “She Was Pretty,” “Proposal Song,” and “Behind You.” In addition to his career as a singer, he has been active as a songwriter and producer. In 1997, he founded JYP Entertainment, which has since launched many successful singers and idol groups and grown into one of the major companies in the K-pop industry. He has served as an internal registered director at the company since 2011.

In recent years, he has also taken on public roles connected to the broader development of the K-pop industry. In September last year, he was appointed co-chair of the Popular Culture Exchange Committee, a presidential advisory body in South Korea. The committee works to establish a national vision for popular culture policy and strengthen the competitiveness of the cultural industry through cooperation between the public and private sectors.

Some observers believe his resignation reflects a desire to dedicate more time to these broader cultural initiatives and his role on the committee. Speaking recently on a television variety program, J.Y. Park said he initially declined the committee position for three months before accepting it. He explained that he ultimately made the decision for the future of the K-pop industry and wanted to attempt initiatives at the national level that are difficult for a single company to pursue.

He also emphasized that he does not align with any political camp. He said that considering the current global situation, balance is important, adding that he does not belong to either the progressive or conservative camp and prefers simply to be identified as J.Y. Park.
