Musical actor Nam Kyung Joo has been referred to prosecutors without detention over sexual assault allegations.
According to reports on March 11, the Seoul Bangbae Police Station recently forwarded Nam Kyung Joo to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on charges of allegedly attempting to sexually assault a woman by abuse of authority last year.
The victim reportedly contacted police after feeling threatened, and authorities later summoned the actor for questioning. Although Nam Kyung Joo reportedly denied the allegations during the investigation, police concluded there were sufficient grounds to send the case to prosecutors.
Nam Kyung Joo acknowledged that the investigation is ongoing but declined to comment further on the specific accusations.
The veteran actor debuted in 1994 with the musical ‘Porgy and Bess’ and has remained active in the theater industry for decades. He currently serves as an associate professor in the Department of Performing Arts at Hongik University.
