KINGDOM's agency will be recalling albums due to a controversy over the album's original design.

On September 25 KST, GF Entertainment released an official apology toward "the Muslim community and anyone else who may have felt discomforted by this situation." The boy group's upcoming 7th mini album 'History of KINGDOM Part VII: JAHAN' received criticism as soon as the first images of the album art (seen below) were released due to its resemblance to the cover of the Quran.

According to the statement, the pre-order period for the album has been pushed from September 21 to September 26, and all 70,000 copies of the original version of the album already pre-ordered will be recalled, discarded, and reissued with an updated version.

The apology statement reads as follows:

"Hello, this is GF Entertainment.

We've recently received feedback concerning the cover of KINGDOM's 7th mini album, which was originally scheduled for pre-order on the 21st. It has been pointed out that the design bears some resemblance to the Islamic scripture.

KINGDOM is a group that strives to showcase the richness of world cultures through K-pop, with a strong commitment to promoting cultural diversity and coexistence. We deeply regret that this controversy has arisen due to our lack of awareness and oversight, and we acknowledge our shortcomings in this matter. We offer our sincere apologies to the Muslim community and anyone else who may have felt discomforted by this situation.

We humbly express our regret and take this opportunity to assure you that we are committed to taking steps to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

In light of this, we have made the decision to recall and discard all 70,000 copies of the initial album edition and proceed with a reissue. Pre-orders for KINGDOM's new album will recommence at 11 AM on the 26th, and the official release will proceed as originally scheduled on October 18th.

We extend our heartfelt apologies to the dedicated fans who love KINGDOM for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Meanwhile, 'History of KINGDOM Part VII: JAHAN' is set for release on October 18.

The design bears a semblance, yet it primarily serves as a human-crafted aesthetic endeavor. The Quran encompasses a plethora of diverse design variations. It is important to note that the design, in and of itself, does not hold sacred or holy status.

To be fair the design did look very similar. The members themselves meant no harm, actually I'm sure nobody meant any harm but I can definitely see how Muslims would find it offensive. Thankfully that album edition is being discarded and also thankfully the company has apologised.
