The mega-scale project 'Twelve,' a joint project by Disney+ and KBS2, has finally been unveiled.
Set to premiere on August 23, the series is already generating buzz, as it will be released simultaneously on both an OTT platform and a terrestrial broadcaster. What’s drawing even more attention is the star-studded cast, featuring Ma Dong Seok, Park Hyung Sik, Seo In Guk, and Sung Dong Il, making it truly worthy of the title “legendary casting.”
KBS announced on June 30 that it will revamp its programming schedule starting in August, switching its traditional Wednesday-Thursday miniseries slot to a Saturday-Sunday one. The goal is to create a so-called “drama zone” by consecutively airing weekend dramas and weekend miniseries, encouraging viewers to stay tuned in. Twelve will kick off this new strategy, airing every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 PM on KBS2, while also streaming simultaneously on Disney+.

'Twelve' draws inspiration from the Eastern zodiac, building a fantasy universe where 12 celestial beings, disguised as humans, battle evil forces to protect mankind. With an expansive narrative that spans ancient times to the modern era, the show blends imaginative world-building, action-packed heroism, and compelling characters to breathe new life into the summer drama scene.
The first still cuts revealed strong impressions of the unique characters. Ma Dong Seok stars as “Taesan,” the tiger-representing angel and leader of the twelve. He anchors the group with his signature toughness and charisma. When a long-sealed evil resurfaces in the human world, Taesan leads the celestial warriors into battle. Park Hyung Sik plays “Ogui,” a villain symbolized by the crow, setting up a sharp clash between good and evil. Seo In Guk portrays “Wonseung,” the monkey angel, a multi-dimensional character full of wit and strategic flair. Lee Joo Bin appears as “Mireu,” the dragon angel, who holds sealed powers from a centuries-old war.

Go Gyu Pil (as the angel “Doni” representing a pig) and Kang Mi Na (as the angel “Gangji” representing a dog) promise performances rich in character. Sung Yoo Bin takes on the role of the rat angel “Jwidol,” while Ahn Ji Hye plays “Malsook,” the horse angel, both expected to deliver on both action and drama fronts. Rising actress Regina Lei is cast as “Bangul,” the snake angel, poised to leave a strong impression.
Veteran actor Sung Dong Il plays “Marok,” a human chosen by the divine and the overseer of the 12 angels, adding depth and gravitas to the series. The incorporation of distinct animal motifs and tailored character traits promises a fresh fantasy experience for viewers.

'Twelve' isn’t just a superhero story; it’s a layered narrative exploring justice, sacrifice, and solidarity, set against a backdrop where celestial beings and humans intersect. The simultaneous release via KBS and Disney+ also signals a strategic move to attract both domestic and international audiences.
Meanwhile, coming this September as the second weekend miniseries on KBS2 is 'A Good Day' for Eunsoo, starring Lee Young Ae, Kim Young Kwang, and Park Yong Woo. The mystery drama centers on the precarious and secretive partnership between an ordinary parent and a mysterious teacher, revolving around a drug-filled bag and promising intense psychological warfare and suspenseful twists.
The launch of 'Twelve' alongside KBS’s weekend miniseries strategy is gaining attention as a bold move toward content diversity and platform integration. All eyes are on how this powerful ensemble, led by Ma Dong Seok, will steer the success of K-dramas this summer.
