The March 10 broadcast of KBS2TV's 'Unnies' Slam Dunk 2' featured the members receiving vocal training from SM vocal trainer Jang Jin Young in order to prepare for their debut song.

As soon as singer Minzy appeared before Jang Jin Young he commented, "There had been a thin line between us that we couldn't cross," referring to the fact that he's at SM while Minzy used to be under YG. Minzy then laughed and said, "To meet like this..."

Once the training began, Minzy said, "I usually sing in a bass tone."  After hearing her, Jang Ji Young then said, "Sing just like you did now but with more pressure."   Minzy sang in harmony with her instructor on the keyboard. He pointed out various things and Minzy took in all the information and adjusted her vocals.

After the lesson, she stated, "There were some basic things I already knew. However, there were things that were pointed out that I can work on. Now I know which way to turn, I enjoyed it [the training session] so much."

SM has some of the best vocal trainers, definitely the best from the big 3. They really care about technique, unlikely others that prefer style or just rely on vocal color that doesn't help singers grow imo

Haha. This comment is definitely throwing shade. With that being said, I strongly disagree. Yes, sm focuses more on the classical basics but 1. they kinda have to (since they don't necessarily look for talent or strong vocals) and 2. that can be really limiting (which is why their attempts at R&B usually just sound like a ballad). Emotions and vocal color are also very important. The big 3 styles are very different. Because sm does more “cutesy, teen pop” styles, they get away with typically just the basics. YG dabbles with styles. They could never get away with a solo artist or group singing like sm artists (unless it's shinee, they tend to be the exception for most across company umbrella statements but, most of their singles still fit the bill). And JYP's style is jyp's breathy style. So basically, sm teaches the basics, yg scouts talent and corrects, and jyp teaches in his style (which of course also includes the basics). To say a company has the best coaches, there would have to be a set criteria.

For those who don't know?? and who are interested? In the near future there could be a chance that Minzy will be doing a funding project though makestar. I had an email from makestar today, asking me to fill out a survey! so that they could see how much interest there is on Minzy doing a funding project.

i doubt minzy is getting any vocal teaining at musicowr (or any trainign at all) but while i was skeptical about her fixed spot onthe unniess2, im glad shes learning new things and of course that from a trainer of a rival company for years :)
