Netflix’s series 'The Wonderfools,' starring Cha Eun Woo, is set for a second-quarter release. While May 15 had been reported as the release date, Netflix has clarified that this is not confirmed, and the schedule is still under discussion. Promotional events, including the press conference, have not been finalized.

The clarification comes amid recent reports of Cha Eun Woo’s alleged tax evasion involving approximately 20 billion KRW (approx. 13.8 million USD). Last year, he was investigated by the Seoul Regional Tax Office, which determined that the alleged evasion occurred through a corporation established by his mother.

Cha Eun Woo’s agency, Fantagio, and the family-run corporation had a service contract supporting his entertainment activities. Revenue was reportedly divided between Fantagio, the corporation, and Cha Eun Woo personally. Questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the corporation, which was found to be tied to an eel restaurant operated by his mother - a restaurant Cha Eun Woo had previously recommended publicly, further fueling the controversy.

On January 26, Cha Eun Woo addressed the situation on social media, apologizing for causing concern and disappointment. He reflected on his responsibility as a citizen to fulfill tax obligations. Fantagio emphasized that the main issue is whether the corporation is subject to taxation, adding that legal procedures will be followed to clarify disputes over the interpretation and application of tax laws.

'The Wonderfools' is a supernatural comic action-adventure set in 1999, following a group of quirky locals who gain powers through unexpected events and confront villains threatening the peace of Haesung City.

Park Eun Bin
plays the unpredictable official Eun Chae Ni, who suddenly gains superpowers. Cha Eun Woo portrays Lee Woon Jung, a socially awkward special civil servant from Seoul who becomes intrigued by a series of mysterious disappearances in Haesung City. Kim Hae Sook appears as Chae Ni’s grandmother, Kim Jeon Bok. Additional cast includes Choi Dae Hoon, Lim Sung Jae, and Son Hyun Joo, who plays the calculating and ambitious Ha Won Do.

Directed by Yoo In Shik, known for ENA’s 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo', this marks his second collaboration with Park Eun Bin. The script is written by Heo Da Joong (Extreme Job), with Kang Eun Kyung ('Romantic Doctor Kim,' 'Gyeongseong Creature') as creator.

If there are no further changes, the series is scheduled to release on May 15.

Cha Eun Woo enlisted last July and is currently serving in the Army Ministry of Defense Support Unit, with discharge planned for January 2027.
