Girls' Generation’s Yuri is making a striking impression on the theatre stage with her latest performance in the play 'THE WASP.'
The play tells the story of two former classmates, Heather and Carla, who reunite after 20 years. Yuri takes on the role of Carla, a woman who is confronted with a shocking proposal from Heather, someone she once bullied during their school days.
What makes Yuri’s portrayal particularly noteworthy is her embodiment of a daring character while pregnant with her fifth child. Her nuanced acting captures Carla’s rough demeanor and bold behavior, presenting a fresh and unexpected side of Yuri that contrasts with her previous image.
From the moment Carla is faced with Heather’s proposal to the emotional climax in the latter part of the play, Yuri skillfully navigates the character’s complex emotional journey, keeping audiences captivated throughout the 90-minute performance.
In an appearance on 'SBS NIGHTLINE' on March 25, Yuri shared her thoughts on the role. She said, “‘Carla’ was very different from the roles I have played before, and as an actress, I was very eager to take on the challenge. It was a continuous journey of trying something new from start to finish. I even purchased a maternity suit to become more familiar with being pregnant and booked accommodation near the rehearsal studio to focus fully and practice like a student preparing for exams.” Her dedication and preparation highlight the effort behind this remarkable transformation.
Yuri’s compelling performance in the play 'THE WASP' can be seen at the Sejong S Theatre until April 26.
