The film 'Humint,' directed by Ryu Seung Wan, is signaling strong box office potential. It has outpaced 'Number One' and 'Wuthering Heights,' which are opening on the same day.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system, 'Humint' ranked No. 1 in advance ticket sales with a 38.5 percent reservation rate as of 9 AM on February 11. The film has held the top spot for five consecutive days.

It has also set a new record for the highest number of bookings among films released or scheduled for release this year. As of that morning, 188,283 tickets had been sold in advance, reflecting strong anticipation from audiences.

'Humint' tells the story of individuals with different motives who clash in Vladivostok, where both secrets and truths lie submerged beneath the icy sea.

Just as the air in Vladivostok is freezing, the world of intelligence agents demands the same level of cold precision. At times, agents must recruit, protect, and even abandon people as part of their duties. National Intelligence Service agent Jo Gwa Jang (played by Jo In Sung) lives each day navigating these harsh choices. When he loses a source known as “Humint” while tracking North Korean diplomats involved in drug trafficking and human trafficking, his guilt drives him to extreme lengths.

In the film, the intelligence system treats people as data. Jo Gwa Jang is part of that system, yet he strives to retain his humanity. A past failure gives him a compelling reason to desperately protect Cha Seon Hwa (played by Shin Se Kyung), a North Korean compatriot he meets in Vladivostok.

In the moments when he forms an unintended alliance with North Korean agent Park Geon (played by Park Jung Min) - who, by circumstance, becomes his enemy - he is not the agent Jo Gwa Jang, but simply a person determined to save someone. Director Ryu Seung Wan portrays the tension between an agent’s necessary coldness and the moral responsibility of being human with elegant action sequences and finely tuned sensibilities.

Ryu Seung Wan helmed the project, completing his overseas location trilogy following 'The Berlin File' (2013) and 'Escape from Mogadishu' (2021). The film was shot in Latvia.

Humint released in theaters nationwide on February 11.
