Actress Choi Kang Hee is set to appear on the June 5 episode of KBS2’s variety show 'Problem Child in House,' where she shares a surprisingly honest story about a time she almost walked away from acting.
During the show, Choi reveals that she once seriously considered retiring from her career. She explains that she stopped enjoying acting and began to feel overwhelmed by the attention and love she received from fans. Rather than feeling supported, she felt weighed down by it all.
“I couldn’t enjoy my work anymore,” she says. “The love I was getting started to feel like a burden, and that made me think about quitting.”
At the time, she turned to two trusted people in her life, comedian Kim Sook and veteran actress Kim Hye Ja. Choi shares that Kim Sook gave her a piece of advice that stayed with her. She told Choi not to announce anything and to sit with the decision privately for a while. Looking back, Choi feels that this helped her avoid making a rushed choice. She credits Kim Sook with helping her get through that emotional period.
The episode also reveals the long-lasting friendship between Choi, Kim Sook, and Song Eun Yi. The three have been friends for over 30 years, and one shared memory had everyone laughing. Kim Sook recalls a trip where Choi forgot her sunglasses at their rental house. Kim went back to retrieve them, only for Choi to realize she had also left her pouch. After another trip back, they thought it was over, but the rental staff called again to say a large bag had been left behind. That one turned out to be Song Eun Yi’s.
Joo Woo Jae, one of the show’s hosts, joked that their everyday lives could easily be turned into a comedy series.
Choi affectionately describes Kim Sook as someone who feels like a warm and reliable older brother. She compares Song Eun Yi to a character from the film 'When Life Gives You Tangerines,' saying she is someone who always finds a way to solve problems. Choi expressed how thankful she is for their friendship and support.
The episode will also touch on the heartfelt advice she received from Kim Hye Ja, which gave her strength during a difficult time. Choi now says she feels more comfortable in her own skin and is looking forward to future roles. She even mentioned that she could confidently play a cheerful kitchen auntie character someday.
'Problem Child in House' airs every Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on KBS2, featuring lively conversations, laughter, and energetic quiz challenges from the rooftop set.
