Fantagio's ambiguous answers about Ong Sung Woo joining SURPRISE U are worrying fans.

Fantagio will be debuting a second actor group called SURPRISE U as a second 5urprise. When asked if 'Produce 101's Ong Sung Woo will be in the group, the label stayed ambiguous, saying, "It's undecided. He's in 'Produce 101' season 2 right now, so he's focusing on that."

The ambiguous answer has fans worried that Ong Sung Woo will be joining the group after all. Many pointed out that Ong Sung Woo should be in an idol group and not an acting one.

What do you think?

Ofcourse they wont say anything now, joining ANY group while in produce 101 is an almost 100% chance of not making top 11 :(

LilBmw Wednesday, June 7, 2017

They really shouldn't... It's quite obvious he's making it into the Top 11 they shouldn't jeopardise it in anyway

Endless_Nameless Wednesday, June 7, 2017

I think what most of you don't know is that Seongwoo joined Fantagio after they held auditions at his university looking for possible new members for their second actor group. It's a project Fantagio has been working on for over a year, the fact that they let Seungwoo participate on P101 shows his desire to be an idol.

If they do end up putting him in the group (which i don't agree with) i would like one request and that is to CHANGE THE FREAKING NAME

starling_fly Wednesday, June 7, 2017

I think that he should debut in a idol group instead of an actor group. I heard somewhere that acting is his major at his school, but I think he should debut as a idol (in a idol group!) first, and then go into acting from there.

Whats the point Of an actor group ? I never understood the concept

Endless_Nameless dason Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Because actor groups may differ from company to company I'll explain 5urprise for you. They're 5 actors that were taught singing, dancing and learnt (sort of) to play instruments. They released a few singles not because they were persuing a career in music but to promote their group. A lot of rookie actors have a hard time getting their first acting gig, but by using their good looks and decent singing voices (they're quite good, not the best but nice enough, you should check it out) they not only put their names out there but also showed directors and producers that in case of needing an actor that can sing or something music-related they're a good option (one of Kangjoon's early roles had to play the piano, and he had already learnt a few pieces which helped accelerate the filming process). Now, they're an actor group and that means that their income is split between the members (Gongmyung has confirmed this) but because they're not idols it's not 20% for everyone, it's unknown however how much goes for everyone (I'd say after the company takes their part, 60% for the guy that earned it and 10% for the remaining four guys is fair). Another advantage of being an actor group is that let's say they're in the middle of the first script reading and the director feels one of the actors doesn't fit the character, that actor could recommend another member of his group and because they've probably seen the script by now or have heard of it so they'd be somewhat familiar to the character and/or story already. Did I make sense here? ^^;

I don't see how the other member could be allowed to read the script owned by a certain member, unless they're all joining the script reading session at the same time.

SecondLeadQueen5 Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Don't join it. The first time they tried this "plan" I didn't work out 5uprise is just not popular.

meanjoke SecondLeadQueen5 Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Depends who... 5urprise is an acting group, it brings opportunities and you have to seize them. Seo Kang Jun is one of Fantagio's biggest stars, Gong Myung is doing REALLY good these days. They help each other by appearing in each other's projects. I don't think they're doing bad at all. And Ong Seung Woo joining an actor group isn't that binding, maybe Fantagio doesn't have enough to debut a male idol group but he can do solo activities as a singer ^^.

nonaeve Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Well... if he manages to get in top 11 (which he most likely will) he won't debut in the actor group. Fantagio was really good at making sure Doyeon and Yoojung focused on their produce 101 group activities before debuting them in any group. Whatever path he takes, i will support!

forgivemenot1 nonaeve Wednesday, June 7, 2017

The only reason they made Doyeon and Yoojung focus on P101 was because Fantagio had no plans to debut a girlgroup at the time, this was made clear by Yoojung when she said that going on P101 was her last stab at being an idol because if the opportunity of P101 hadn't come up she was going to leave Fantagio, since they both made it into IOI Fantagio have been rushing to try and slap something together ever since, I just hope they don't screw it up.

nonaeve forgivemenot1 Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Really? I didn't know that. They really better not screw it up because this is a really critical point in both of their careers after IOI

ohmyastro forgivemenot1 Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Fantagio already had 6 female trainees. They were definitely going to debut a girl group but I guess the success in P101 made them speed up things. ASTRO debuted in 2016 so it's risky for companies to debut new groups in less than a year but ASTRO has proven good growth too, so I guess it was worth the gamble to debut the girls in 2017.

forgivemenot1 ohmyastro Wednesday, June 7, 2017

All companies have trainees at any given time, whether they do anything with those trainees is another thing entirely and the main vocal of the group that was on P101 left Fantagio soon after she was eliminated from the show; Fantagio doesn't fill me with confidence, they are good at representing actors because that's the company's main focus and their training system seems to be good as well, but other than ASTRO they have have had more failures than hits when it comes to music groups, they ruined HelloVenus by going too sexy against the majority of fans wishes, 5urprise is a complete failure and now they are going to debut another actor/boy group with the imaginative title Surprise U which is based on the same template as 5urprise and now they are going to do a girlgroup at the same time? I really am worried for those girls.

cirrosis Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Honestly he could probably be fine as a solo.

heeheehe Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Not a good move... Look how well 5uprise is doing...

JessicaRabbit123 heeheehe Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Surprise only released singles, 3 to be exact. Can't really say much of their idol career because they don't do much. They focus mostly on their individual acting careers which have been doing relatively well (Kang Joon has been the most successful and recognized). Ong would be the Kang Joon of his group.

DuniaWu JessicaRabbit123 Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Well Gong Myung is doing really good too lately and the Thai member does good in Thailand - I've heard.

Jpopers JessicaRabbit123 Monday, June 19, 2017

if they really want them to focus as actors, why making a group at the first place? just debut as actors.

DuniaWu Jpopers Monday, June 19, 2017

Cuz' people only remembers actors like Song Jong Ki, Jo In Sung, Gong Yoo and a few more. They make the group so they have a little more support

Jpopers DuniaWu Monday, June 19, 2017

Ah, I see. So it's more like a marketing strategy, not really making a whole new different concept :)
