Actress Nam Ji Hyun will not be returning for the second season of SBS’s legal drama 'Good Partner,' much to fans’ disappointment.
According to broadcasting industry sources on June 24, Nam Ji Hyun and the production team of 'Good Partner' had been in ongoing discussions regarding her appearance in the new season. However, due to scheduling conflicts, she ultimately decided not to participate.
Season 2 of 'Good Partner' recently entered production and is set to begin filming in the first half of next year. Actress Jang Na Ra, who starred alongside Nam Ji Hyun in the first season, is reportedly considering her return positively.
The first season of 'Good Partner,' which aired from July to September last year, followed the complex and often emotional cases of divorce lawyers Cha Eun Kyung (played by Jang Na Ra), a seasoned professional, and Han Yu Ri (played by Nam Ji Hyun), a rookie experiencing the legal world for the first time. The series stood out with its compelling "womance" storyline and realistic portrayal of divorce cases, setting it apart from conventional legal dramas.
'Good Partner' opened with a nationwide viewership rating of 7.8% (Nielsen Korea) and reached a peak of 17.7%, earning both high ratings and buzz for its heartfelt storytelling. Nam Ji Hyun received praise for her portrayal of Han Yu Ri, depicting the character’s growth from a novice to a skilled divorce attorney with nuance and emotional depth. Her chemistry with Jang Na Ra played a key role in the show’s popularity.
Debuting in 2004 with MBC’s 'Say You Love Me,' Nam Ji Hyun has built a solid acting portfolio over the years. Her performance in' Good Partner' is widely regarded as one of her standout roles, marking a new milestone in her career.
With much anticipation surrounding the return of key cast members such as Jang Na Ra and Nam Ji Hyun, news of Nam’s absence has left fans wondering how Season 2 will unfold and whether it can recapture the magic of its predecessor.
Meanwhile, Nam Ji Hyun is currently filming the upcoming KBS2 historical romantic comedy 'My Dearest Thief' (literal title), set to air next year. The drama tells the story of a woman who accidentally becomes a thief and a Joseon-era prince whose soul swaps with hers, leading to a journey of mutual salvation. She stars opposite actor Moon Sang Min in the series.
