ILLIT’s Wonhee recently revealed on a fan communication platform that she fell victim to a scam while purchasing mystery boxes of the popular Popmart LABUBU dolls.
Wonhee's LABUBU Purchase
On June 23, she shared photos of her purchase on the fan communication platform and explained, "I got scammed... This really isn't it. I'm so dumbfounded. I actually saw the box and purchased it in person... The box looked real."
However, the photos showed a doll that was clearly an off-brand imitation. Unlike the original LABUBU plush dolls, the one Wonhee received was made of cheap plastic and noticeably different in appearance.
LABUBU dolls have exploded in popularity across South Korea, with some fans waiting in long lines at flagship stores just to get their hands on the limited-edition toys. The craze even led to a physical altercation between alleged Chinese customers at an offline store.
