On January 30, H.U.B member RUI was one of the contestants on MBC's 'Idol Star Athletics Championship' Lunar New Year special where she won the gold in the 60m female track and field event with the time of 9.06 seconds.  Having mentioned her dreams of becoming famous, the Japanese-born singer got her wish.

RUI recently sat down with media outlet Tenasia for an exclusive interview.

Q. Have you ever watched 'Idol Star'?

It's such a lively atmosphere and I get nervous on set so I don't know what's going on half of the time.  But yesterday I watched the show and it brought back memories, making me cry.

Q. Were you confident in winning first place?

I prepared for 'Idol Star' two months prior.  However, I injured my ankle just one week before the competition.  So I wasn't able to practice as much.  Luckily, the results turned out well, and I cried when I won gold thinking about how challenging it was.

Q. Does your mother in Japan know about the news?

Fortunately, I was able to tell her.  She was very proud of me.  She only knows a little bit of Korean but she took the time to read articles about me. She must be very happy.

Q. Apart from 'Idol Star', do you work out on a daily basis?

I used to play basketball in junior high school so I like to exercise.  I usually go on bike rides and go to the gym.

Q. H.U.B is debuting on February 9, you must be excited?

2017 appears to be a good start so far.  With winning gold this season, all of our members are looking forward to a good year.  I like how H.U.B consists of members who can come up with good vocals/rap and dance moves so please support us and look forward to our works.

Netizens commented, "RUI is amazing!", "If she made in with an ankle injury, she'll probably go for 8 seconds next time," "Wish you all the best of luck this year, RUI!"

Quick question: If H.U.B hasnt debuted yet why were they at the Idol star games? :/ (She's really pretty ^^ )

pink_oracle NORM Wednesday, February 1, 2017

Because they did release a digital single last year. Consider it a soft debut.

She looks amazing! She will become the next Suzy, the nation's sweetheart. I'm prepared to bet a lot of money on that.

k_kid Tuesday, January 31, 2017

It seems like more Japanese people are entering Kpop more now. But I thought Rui was Korean this whole time.

Exo_Leia Tuesday, January 31, 2017

You can participate without being debuted?

k_kid Exo_Leia Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Of course, why not? There's isn't any rule that says you can't. More exposure for them.

k_kid Exo_Leia Tuesday, January 31, 2017

I just checked and apparently they've debuted last year November 24 with a single.

Exo_Leia k_kid Tuesday, January 31, 2017

Ah I see, maybe a mistranslation. Thank you! And I never thought of undebuted teams participating.. Interesting
