The trailer for 'Butterfly,' Amazon Prime Video’s upcoming global spy thriller, has been released and is attracting significant attention from audiences worldwide.
Based on the graphic novel of the same name, 'Butterfly' follows former U.S. intelligence operative David Jung (played by Daniel Dae Kim), who has left everything behind to live a quiet life in Korea.
His peace is shattered when the consequences of a past decision resurface, putting him in the crosshairs of a mysterious agent, Rebecca (Reina Hardesty), and the covert organization Cadis. As David faces relentless pursuit and mounting threats, he is forced to confront a truth that could upend everything he knows.
The series has sparked heightened interest in Korea with the casting of prominent Korean actors Kim Ji Hoon, Kim Tae Hee, and Park Hae Soo. The newly released trailer shows familiar faces and iconic Korean locations. It features a tense fight between Daniel Dae Kim and Kim Ji Hoon on a subway platform, a poignant seaside moment with Kim Tae Hee, and a seemingly fateful encounter with Park Hae Soo.
Sweeping views of Seoul’s skyline, the Yeouido district, and everyday scenes such as convenience stores and apartment complexes add to the authenticity and visual appeal for Korean viewers. Fans are expected to enjoy spotting familiar Korean settings, props, and even glimpses of Hangul throughout the series.
In an interview with the New York Post, Daniel Dae Kim said, “I wanted to create a show that connects Korean and American cultures,” adding with a laugh, “I’ve kept up with my Korean since Lost, so speaking the language in 'Butterfly' came more naturally.”
The Korea-set global series 'Butterfly' will premiere on August 22 (Friday) and air every Friday and Saturday at 10:40 p.m. KST on tvN and TVING.
