Actor Chae Jong Hyup has spoken out regarding his withdrawal from the upcoming film 'Turtle'. On August 13 KST, his agency BLITZWAY stated that the contract had specified a detailed filming period, with plans for Chae to complete the movie before starting a drama project. However, due to delays on the production side, the filming period outlined in the contract passed without completion.
The agency emphasized that no prior consultation or agreement took place between the actor, the drama’s broadcaster, and its production team regarding schedule changes. BLITZWAY proposed postponing the movie shoot until after the drama wrapped, but negotiations fell through, leading them to send a formal notice to terminate the contract. While they still hope for an amicable resolution, the agency warned it would pursue legal action under the contract and relevant laws if necessary.
Earlier reports revealed that Chae’s side sent the notice to production company Popcorn Film. The company countered, stating the actor’s unilateral termination claim is invalid and threatened legal measures, including damages, if the matter isn’t resolved.
Chae signed on to Turtle in April, but filming — initially scheduled for May to July — was delayed in May due to internal issues. The production asserts those dates were tentative and subject to change through mutual agreement in unforeseen circumstances, while Chae’s camp maintains that the period was clearly stated and no discussion about delays occurred.
