First Lady Kim Keon Hee’s initial interrogation by Special Prosecutor Min Joong Ki’s team concluded after just over four hours, marking her first appearance since being taken into custody.
According to the investigation team, Kim exercised her right to remain silent for most of the allegations. During a break, she reportedly confided to her defense attorneys, “Will I ever be able to live with my husband again? Will we be able to meet again?”
The special prosecutor’s office summoned Kim as a suspect to question her over allegations of illegal intervention in the nomination process for party candidates. Kim is also scheduled to undergo an in-person medical examination next week due to deteriorating health.
During questioning, Kim is said to have denied instructing Myung Tae Gyun in relation to the case. Deputy Special Prosecutor Moon Hong Joo told reporters that Kim refused to answer questions on most of the alleged charges, although she made some statements expressing personal sentiments rather than addressing the accusations directly.
Moon added that Thursday’s interrogation focused solely on allegations of unlawful election interference and candidate nomination manipulation.
The special prosecutor’s office plans to summon Kim again at 10 a.m. on Friday. The Southern Detention Center has informed investigators it will confirm her attendance after she meets with her lawyers that morning.
