Actor Kim Nam Gil is marking the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation with a meaningful project to shed light on historical sites linked to the independence movement.
On August 14, Seo Kyoung Duk, a professor at Sungshin Women’s University, shared on social media: “To commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, I teamed up with Kim Nam Gil to release a video introducing hidden historical sites in the heart of the city.”
In the video, Kim and Professor Seo guide viewers through key landmarks of Korea’s independence movement, including Bukchon Village preserved by architectural pioneer Jeong Se Gwon, Dilkusha House—the former residence of American journalist Albert Taylor, and the Yoon Dong Ju Literature Museum.
The project reflects on the spirit of independence activists who dedicated their lives to preserving Korea’s identity during Japanese colonial rule. Professor Seo noted, “I wanted to introduce lesser-known independence heritage sites and make them more accessible to the public.”
He added,“This project aims to help international visitors learn about our history and encourage them to visit these meaningful places.”
Kim Nam Gil shared his own reflections:“I realized that the peace we enjoy today is possible thanks to the unseen sacrifices of the past. Visiting these sites was deeply healing for me.”
The video was released in Korean first, with an English version set to be unveiled next week.
