[Drama Review] 'Pinocchio' - Episode 8

Park Shin Hye, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Yu Bi, Kim Young Kwang
'Pinocchio' finishes off this week with what I dare to say is its best episode yet. I haven't felt this excited for a drama in a really long time.

This episode was very fast-paced. Amidst dramas that like to take their time dragging problems out, I appreciate that this one cuts to the chase, especially when it comes to the Dal Po and Jae Myeong storyline. I did not expect Dal Po to suspect Jae Myeong of being a murderer so soon, for Jae Myeong to realize that Dal Po is a reporter, or even for Jae Myeong to find Dal Po and confront him. I was on the edge of my seat in shock scene after scene. And then to top it off, we have that perfectly executed, epic ending that left Jae Myeong unconscious after saving a little boy who reminded him of his brother. While I found 'Pinocchio' to be predictable in the earlier episodes, the drama has made so many twists and turns in this one episode, I find myself wondering what can possibly happen to Dal Po and Jae Myeong next. And not knowing makes me very, very excited for next week.

This episode was also chock full of jokes. I found myself chuckling during so many scenes that I had a really difficult time picking which moments to screencap for my "Highlights" section. From Dal Po's superiors failing to scold him and In Ha's decision to wash her hair with toilet water (seriously, TOILET WATER!) to In Ha's father bragging about his daughter to everyone and anyone who would listen, there wasn't a boring moment in this episode.

'Pinocchio' episode eight was quick, zippy, fun, and simultaneously an emotional rollercoaster ride. The only part about this episode that I don't think I enjoyed as much is the romantic relationship between Dal Po and In Ha. I know, I know. Their intimate kiss was one of the most passionate of K-Drama kisses; even Park Shin Hye seemed to enjoy it for once (poor girl always seems to play characters who resist the smooches). But as I've said before, I feel as if the Jae Myeong/Dal Po plot and the events occurring in the news world overshadow the romance. I find myself not feeling that attached to this couple. Perhaps it's because they established that they liked each other so soon or because I saw their dynamic most endearing when they acted like uncle and niece that I'm not necessarily invested in their romance.

In fact, I'm surprised that In Ha is okay with being in a semi-unofficial-relationship with her uncle at the moment. She thought it was wrong before, so how does a kiss change anything? Maybe she's trying to ignore that they're uncle and niece and trying to enjoy it while it lasts? Whatever these two are thinking, I hope there are developments next week that either make this relationship work or at least make me see them as more fitting as a couple than as family members.

Highlights:

We find out that Dal Po didn't reveal his true name to Jae Myeong in case he was a murder suspect. However, whether Dal Po would ever report Jae Myeong is something we, or even Dal Po, don't know yet.

If only you knewwwww.

This fail shoulder hug. Beom Jo be like, "Bruh, get on ma level."

For such a nice building, they sure do have paper thin walls.

Captain imagines a loving bro-hug of sorts.

And is disappointed when he doesn't get it.

In Ha finally, FINALLY finds out the truth about Dal Po's "girlfriend."

"Ah."

Now kiss.

For your viewing pleasure:

Meanwhile, friendzoned Beom Jo just gets a high five. A really painful one at that. Dayum, look at how red his hand is!

The sink water isn't working and In Ha decides that desperate times call for desperate measures.

In Ha, you're not gonna do what I think you're gonna do, are you....

O... Oh God.

Best. Cover. Ever.

Let the misunderstandings begin! Unfortunately, or fortunately for Dal Po, Yoo Rae announces that she's already reserved for her future husband, Heechul. But of course.

At first I was with In Ha when she argued that she can't just watch people fall over themselves without helping out...

...until this guy gave his epic yelling speech. Captain Kim Gong Joo (Kim Kwang Kyu) reminds the MSC rookies that the news needs to show how slippery the roads are so that the public can better take care of themselves. The news isn't just a source of entertainment; it's a source of information for the community.

Meanwhile, Dal Po is not enjoying this misunderstanding.

Or this misunderstanding. Jae Myeong-ah, if only you knew.

Now to narrate my reaction to one of the most epic drama episode endings EVER:

"Oh God."

"Oh God NO NO NO NO."

"SOMEONE DO SOMETHING. DON'T JUST STAND THERE LIKE GET THE KID OUT OF THE WAY AT LEAST JEEZ."

"HOLY CRAP WHAT."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOO--"

Jae Myeong actually says here, "That's a relief, Ha Myeong-ah," which is Dal Po's real name.

Me actually:

What did you guys think of the episode? What do you think could happen to Jae Myeong and Dal Po next? What obstacles will Dal Po and In Ha face now that they're kind of in a relationship? Discuss in the comments below!
