A teenage high school student has been arrested in Seoul for threatening to detonate explosives in front of the old Andong Station plaza in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.
According to the Andong Police Department, the suspect, identified as A, a high school student in his teens, was apprehended at a private residence in Dongdaemun District, Seoul, at approximately 2:25 p.m. on August 15 on charges of public intimidation.
Earlier this morning, at around 7:37 a.m., A posted a message in the chat of a YouTube live stream claiming, “I will detonate explosives at the old Andong Station plaza.” At the time, a large number of citizens and broadcast personnel had gathered in the area for filming related to the KBS 'Documentary Three Days.'
Police immediately deployed officers from the nearby police station, the Andong Police Department’s initial response team, and a special task force to secure and search the site.
No explosives were found during the search, and police lifted the area restrictions at approximately 10:20 a.m., after nearly three hours.
Authorities said A was identified through location tracking and other investigative methods. A police official stated, “Investigators from Andong Police Department are currently heading to Seoul to question A.”
