Seo Yuri has sparked concern after revealing that she is now under investigation as a defamation suspect, despite being a long time victim of alleged stalking.

On April 7 KST, Seo Yuri shared a detailed statement via social media, explaining that a third provisional protective measure had been issued on April 6 following her public disclosure of the case. She noted that while such measures are intended to protect victims, the alleged perpetrator has not faced punishment.

“While three provisional measures were issued, the perpetrator was never punished even once,” she wrote. “In the meantime, I had to submit petitions, and eventually became a suspect myself.”

Seo Yuri pointed out limitations in South Korea’s anti stalking law, explaining that although violations of provisional measures can lead to criminal penalties or detention, enforcement in her case has not materialized. “The law exists, but it did not function,” she stated, questioning what options remain for victims in such situations.

According to Seo Yuri, she has been subjected to continuous online harassment since 2020, including thousands of posts containing threats, sexual insults, and personal attacks. She previously filed a complaint against the alleged perpetrator under charges including violations of the stalking punishment law.

However, the case has reportedly been delayed for months following its transfer to prosecutors, with requests for supplementary investigation and changes in assigned prosecutors contributing to the lack of resolution. While the court issued and extended provisional measures twice, the main investigation has yet to be concluded.

After Seo Yuri publicly shared details of her experience, the opposing party filed a countersuit accusing her of defamation, including both false and factual statements. She explained that the case was initially closed with no charges, but was later reopened following an objection, leading to further investigation and her current status as a suspect.

“After I raised concerns about the delayed investigation, a case that had already been closed was reopened under another jurisdiction,” she said. “I spoke up as a victim, and became a suspect.”

With the provisional measures now expired, Seo Yuri added that she is no longer under additional protection. “The perpetrator is still free today, and I am preparing for another process,” she said, emphasizing her determination to continue pursuing the case.
