Actor Ju Ji Hoon spoke about the much-discussed bathroom kiss scene with Ha Ji Won in 'Climax.'
On April 7, Ju Ji Hoon held an interview at the ENA conference room in Sangam-dong, Seoul, for the ENA Monday–Tuesday drama 'Climax.'
Climax tells the story of prosecutor Bang Tae Seop (played by Ju Ji Hoon), who enters a cartel of power in order to rise to the top in South Korea, depicting the fierce survival of those surrounding him.
He explained, “The project was originally rated 19+, but after partnering with ENA and Genie TV, it was adjusted to a 15+ rating. Even though I expected it, when I actually saw it on the channel, it felt more provocative. Isn’t it all relative? Even the same scene can feel different depending on the platform.”
He added, “When watching in a cinema, audiences are somewhat mentally prepared, but on TV, it can feel more direct.” He continued, “In reality, it wasn’t a scene with any particular exposure or excessive expression. Nevertheless, the reaction felt quite strong, which surprised me a little.”
Ju Ji Hoon also mentioned changes in the content consumption environment. “Even with the same setup or scene, the reception temperature differs depending on the platform,” he said. “These days, that’s something we take into consideration.” He added, “It made me newly realize that a scene which didn’t feel particularly provocative during filming can be interpreted differently depending on the viewing environment.”
Ju Ji Hoon plays Bang Tae Seop, a prosecutor who jumps into a cartel aiming for the peak of power. After marrying Chu Sang Ah (Ha Ji Won) in a strategic alliance, he becomes a star prosecutor driven purely by ambition. Their relationship drew attention early in the drama, especially due to the bold bathroom kiss scene.
Regarding the scene, he said, “By film standards, it wasn’t actually that provocative. It was simply a moment where our lips touched, but when seen on broadcast, it felt much more intense.”
