IU delighted fans with a creative April Fools’ Day surprise, perfectly recreating her iconic 2011 “You & I” era and taking viewers back 15 years in time.
On April 1, IU uploaded a video titled “[IU TV] Unreleased ‘You & I’ practice video from 15 years ago (one day before comeback)” on her official YouTube channel. In the video, she appears fully transformed into her 2011 self, complete with her signature bold eyeliner, distinctive hairstyle, and original stage outfit from that era.
The attention to detail stood out in particular. Beyond the styling, the video recreated the low-resolution (720p) quality and screen ratio typical of the time, enhancing the nostalgic atmosphere. IU also acted as her 19-year-old high school self, playfully worrying, “Tomorrow is my first ‘Music Bank’ performance, will I do well?” while chatting with staff.
During the makeup process, she joked, “It’s been so long since I did this makeup, it’s hilarious. My eyes look huge,” before seamlessly switching into the shy and soft-spoken persona she had as a rookie singer, drawing laughter from fans.
She also practiced the signature “clock hand dance” from “You & I,” adding a touching moment by saying, “If I do well, maybe I can perform at a big stadium like the Olympic Stadium in 10 years,” subtly referencing her current status as a top artist who has since achieved that very milestone.
Meanwhile, IU is set to star in the upcoming drama ‘21st Century Grand Princess Consort,’ which premieres on April 10 at 9:40 PM KST.
