Seventeen’s new special unit S.Coups X Mingyu has set a new record for the highest first-week sales of a K-pop unit album.
According to Hanteo Chart, their first mini-album 'HYPE VIBES' surpassed 820,000 cumulative sales on October 2, just four days after release. This breaks the previous record for K-pop unit album first-week sales (787,046 copies). With more than three days left in the first week's sales tally, anticipation is rising over what new record the duo will set.
The success of 'HYPE VIBES' was evident from the start. On release day alone, the album sold over 600,000 copies, setting the highest-ever first-day sales for a K-pop unit album. It also debuted at No. 1 on Hanteo’s daily album chart, ranked No. 1 on Japan’s Oricon Daily Album Ranking (September 30), and held the top spot for three consecutive days in the EP category of QQ Music’s Digital Best Album Chart in China.
The title track "5, 4, 3 (Pretty Woman) (feat. Ray Banks)" drew major attention even before its official release. A surprise challenge video for the song, dropped on September 19, has already surpassed 180 million views, signaling massive popularity. Upon release, the track topped Bugs’ real-time chart, while every track from the album successfully entered Melon’s Top 100.
Meanwhile, S.Coups X Mingyu performed their new song today on Mnet’s 'M Countdown' on October 2. They are also continuing to fuel the challenge craze, with two new joint and individual challenge videos released, further exciting fans.
