Fans of actor Kim Soo Hyun have spoken out against misleading claims, urging an end to secondary victimization.
On October 1, Korean and global fan communities issued a statement: “Baseless claims about the actor continue to circulate. Speculation and false information must stop immediately.”
The statement responds to recent posts claiming, “Kim Soo Hyun, under extreme stress, hikes alone.” The fandom clarified that the photo in question was posted by Kim Soo Hyun on Instagram in August 2022, warning that using it as if it were recent spreads misunderstandings and causes serious secondary harm.
The fans emphasized, “Unverified reporting can create additional stress and damage. The media must report responsibly based on verified facts.” They added that Kim Soo Hyun has earned public trust through years of sincere work and will defend against distorted coverage.
Kim Soo Hyun has been in a legal dispute with the Garosero Research Institute since March over the death of late actress Kim Sae Ron. The Institute claimed he dated Kim Sae Ron for six years starting when she was a minor, which Kim Soo Hyun denied, stating they dated only for one year after she became an adult.
Last month, lawyer Ko Sang Rok of Phil Law Firm released letters Kim Soo Hyun wrote to his real-life partner during military service, clarifying the timeline. Ko also confirmed that a two-shot photo of Kim Sae Ron was taken in February 2020, not 2016 as previously claimed, and criticized the Institute for failing to verify basic facts.
Currently, Kim Soo Hyun has filed a defamation suit against Kim Sae Ron’s family and the Institute, while her family has countersued him. Fans have also taken legal action, reporting over 100 online commenters for spreading false and malicious rumors.
