Actor Kim Soo Hyun shared an update for the first time in six months since his last public appearance in March. Reports indicate that he has been coping with stress through hiking as a way to regain his composure.
On September 30, YouTube channel Entertainment President uploaded a video titled 'Kim Soo Hyun Ex-Girlfriend’s Letters Revealed: Double Dating Rumors Explained?' The channel claimed Kim is currently under extreme stress and has turned to hiking as a method of easing his mind.
Entertainment President, Lee Jin Ho recently revealed approximately 150 diary-style letters that Kim had written to his then-girlfriend during his military service. The channel contended that although the letters shed light on his personal life, they did not serve as evidence of his non-involvement with the late actress Kim Sae Ron.
Kim Soo Hyun’s legal team strongly denied the allegations of an underage relationship raised by Kim Sae Ron’s family. They emphasized that proving the nonexistence of such a relationship is inherently difficult, but as a public figure Kim must continue to clarify the truth.
The controversy began in May when a voice recording was released in which the late Kim Sae Ron allegedly claimed she had dated Kim Soo Hyun since middle school. Kim’s agency Gold Medalist rejected the audio as fabricated and suggested it had been artificially generated using AI technology.
Attorney Ko continued to dispute the allegations through his YouTube channel Korean Legal Titan. He explained that the so-called intimate photos shared by the bereaved family were taken between late 2019 and spring 2020 when Kim Sae Ron was already an adult. He stated that the relationship began in summer 2019 and ended the following spring. He argued that if the two had truly been dating since middle school, photos from that period would exist, but none do.
Ko also revealed records from Kim Soo Hyun’s military service. According to him, the letters were reflective writings about daily life and future plans rather than intimate love letters. He noted that Kim often wrote to friends and acquaintances during his service and that the letter sent to the deceased was part of that same pattern.
The dispute escalated in March when a draft statement allegedly written by Kim Sae Ron was shared through KakaoTalk. Ko described the draft as filled with falsehoods, highlighting that it misrepresented her age by stating, “I was 16, he was 30.” He explained that this description was intended to portray Kim in a negative light. He further noted that the photos used to support the underage claims were in fact taken in February 2020, during Kim Sae Ron’s second year of university.
“Kim Soo Hyun is suffering from an organized and malicious cyber attack,” Ko said. He compared online rumor-spreading to digital gang violence and urged society to recognize fake news as a crime rather than a form of entertainment.
At present, Kim Soo Hyun is distancing himself from public activities while focusing on legal responses and finding peace in nature.
