Singer Juniel recently shared her battle with a thyroid condition that led to significant health challenges and weight gain.
On October 24, her story was featured on the YouTube channel 1ma2c in a video titled, 'Sudden Weight Gain of 10kg Due to Health Issues…Why the Hit Songstress Disappeared.'
Reflecting on her long hiatus, Juniel explained, “There were several reasons, but the main ones were COVID-19 and health problems.” She elaborated, “My thyroid function declined, which drastically weakened my stamina and caused severe lethargy. Even though my lifestyle didn’t change, I kept gaining weight and swelling wouldn’t go down.”
Juniel revealed that her weight had risen to 60kg, over 10kg more than her usual, causing her considerable stress. “At that time, I felt very depressed and barely met anyone,” she admitted.
Fortunately, treatment helped improve her condition. “As my thyroid recovered, I started medication and lost 8kg in just one month,” she added.
Regarding her current health, Juniel said, “There are no major issues according to recent tests, but since my condition could worsen, I get blood tests once a year. My stamina hasn’t fully returned yet, so I have to keep exercising regularly.”
Juniel debuted in 2012 with "illa illa" and has released hits including "I Think I’m In Love," "Pisces," and "Zigzag." She recently resumed her music career with the release of her digital single "Eternal Comet" in August.
