Actor Jung Sung Il has decided to go his separate way from his spouse after nine years of marriage. A past interview from just a month ago is also being revisited in light of the news.
On October 14th KST, his agency XYZ Studio released an official statement, saying, “Jung Sung Il and his spouse have decided to end their marriage after much careful thought. This was a mutual decision and not due to any fault by either party. We kindly ask that the media refrain from speculative or distorted reporting.”
Jung Sung Il, who tied the knot in 2016 and has one son, finalized an amicable divorce after nine years of marriage. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Ha Do Young, the husband of Park Yeon Jin (played by Lim Ji Yeon), in the 2022 Netflix series 'The Glory'. He has since solidified his presence through appearances in 'Our Blues', 'Trigger', and more. In particular, he left a lasting impression with his first lead role in the September film 'The Murderer Report', portraying Young Hoon, a psychiatrist-turned-serial killer consumed by madness.
In a previous appearance on the variety program 'Moo No Plan', he openly shared his early struggles, saying he took on various part-time jobs—including designated driving, valet parking, and Coupang deliveries—to support his acting career. “Even after the success of ‘The Glory’, I had to continue working to make ends meet,” he confessed. “Now, I’m just grateful to be able to live off my acting alone.”
Despite receiving steady acting offers since 'The Glory', Jung Sung Il expressed lingering uncertainty in a recent interview: “It feels like I’ve gone from being a temp to full-time,” he said. “But as actors, we rely on being chosen by others—so that sense of instability never fully goes away.”
Some have speculated that such emotional and professional stress may have affected his personal life, but his agency drew a clear line, stating, “Please refrain from excessive interpretation.”
Though one chapter of his family life has come to a close, Jung Sung Il continues to build a solid filmography. There is growing interest in what lies ahead for him as he embarks on a new journey as an actor.
Meanwhile, his agency added, “While the legal relationship has ended, they continue to support one another and are fully committed to co-parenting. Jung Sung Il will continue to show his best side as an actor.”
