The sequel to this summer's mega-hit animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' might happen faster than fans expect.
On August 26, Variety reported that Sony and Netflix are currently in early talks for the follow-up to the popular film. Since its release on June 22, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' has become a global phenomenon, reaping massive success. As of August 26, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' became the most-watched film in Netflix history, overtaking 'Red Notice.'
The original soundtrack for the film also achieved immense success, with four songs ranking in the Top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 simultaneously, and "Golden" reaching #1. In South Korea, "Golden" became the first song ever to reach 1,000-hour Perfect All-Kills.
With so much success, Netflix seems to be on the move to expand on the 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' franchise. Variety reported, "Sony had entered into negotiations with (Director Maggie) Kang and Appelhans to return for a sequel."
The news media also shared an interview with the director, where she shared, "We’ve set up so much for potential backstory. Obviously, there are a lot of questions that are left unanswered and areas that are not explored, and we had to do that because there’s only so much movie you can tell in 85 minutes. This was Rumi’s story, and we have backstories for Zoey and Mira – ones that we actually put in the movie, but it just kind of rejected them. It just wasn’t the movie for those stories."
With early negotiations on the table already, fans can expect a HUNTR/X reunion sooner than expected. So stay tuned for more information and updates on 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' potential sequel!
