Akdong Musician (AKMU) member Suhyun opened up about how her brother, Chanhyuk, helped her overcome a difficult slump, describing his training methods as “beyond imagination.”
On March 25, a preview clip titled 'AKMU Returns After Overcoming a Slump' was released on the YouTube channel for 'You Quiz on the Block.' In the video, the duo appeared alongside host Yoo Jae Suk to share updates ahead of their fourth studio album.
During the interview, Yoo congratulated them on their comeback and asked about the album’s preparation process. He mentioned hearing that Chanhyuk had organized a “mental training camp” to help his younger sister during her slump, and asked if they had gone to Daeseong-ri in January.
Suhyun laughed and said, “Since he’s a former Marine, it really goes beyond imagination.” She described a strict daily routine that included waking up early for exercise, followed by self-development, personal training sessions, and going to bed by 10 p.m. She added, “At one point, I even thought about running away,” which drew laughter on set.
Chanhyuk explained that the program was designed to help his sister regain her rhythm and expressed his sincere support. With a shy smile, he said, “Thank you for trusting me and following along.” Suhyun jokingly covered her ears and made a playful expression, lightening the atmosphere. Yoo added humor by saying he expected Chanhyuk to say “I love you,” which made both siblings react dramatically and sparked more laughter.
Suhyun previously gained attention in August last year after revealing her weight loss transformation. She addressed rumors about using the obesity treatment Wegovy, firmly denying them. “I didn’t use Wegovy. It’s very unfair,” she said, explaining that she focused on exercise, discipline, and healthier habits instead.
More recently, AKMU shared footage on their YouTube channel showing Suhyun’s weight loss journey under Chanhyuk’s structured guidance, further dismissing the rumors.
Meanwhile, AKMU parted ways with YG Entertainment in December and established their independent label, Center of Inspiration. The duo also announced the release of their fourth studio album, their first full-length project in seven years, on February 23.
Their appearance on 'You Quiz on the Block' will air on April 1 at 8:45 p.m. on tvN.
