Singer Roy Kim is leaving WAKEONE, a subsidiary of CJ ENM, after 12 years under the label.
On August 5, WAKEONE confirmed to Donga.com, “It’s true that Roy Kim’s exclusive contract has come to an end.”
Roy Kim made his debut in the music industry as the winner of 'Superstar K' Season 4 on Mnet in 2012. At the time of his debut, he was signed to Stone Music Entertainment (commonly known as Stone Music).
Stone Music later merged into WAKEONE as part of CJ ENM's internal reorganization of its entertainment subsidiaries. Roy Kim remained with the company throughout, from Stone Music to WAKEONE, for a total of 12 years.
With the expiration of his contract, he is now setting out on a new chapter as an independent artist.
Roy Kim is well known for hit songs such as “Bom Bom Bom,” “Only Then,” and “The Hardest Part.” He is also the son of Kim Hong Taek, former chairman of Seoul Takju, a company famous for its Jangsu Makgeolli (traditional Korean rice wine).
Upon his debut, Roy Kim gained attention not only for his musical talent but also for his good looks and elite background, having studied abroad. He is a graduate of Georgetown University, one of the top universities in the United States.
