Cho Seung Youn, better known by his stage name WOODZ, is a popular South Korean soloist and former member of the Chinese-South Korean boy band UNIQ as well as the now disbanded Mnet’s project boy group X1. Following his appearance in the fifth season of ‘Show Me The Money,’ he debuted as a soloist in 2016 under the stage name Luizy before changing it to WOODZ in 2018.
In 2025, WOODZ reached an all-time career high with the song “Drowning,” which turned into a runaway hit two years after its initial release. Featured as a B-side on his April 2023 EP ‘Oo-li,’ the track topped the MelOn TOP 100 and Circle Chart, with K-netizens considering it as this year’s ‘Song of the Year.’ It first charted in October last year after WOODZ’s performance on the television show ‘Armed Forces Special’ during his mandatory military service went viral and racked up millions of views.
On July 21, 2025, the “Drowning” singer was officially discharged from the military, marking the occasion with a discharge ceremony at the Korea Military Academy in Seoul. He had enlisted at the Nonsan Army Training Center in Chungnam on January 22, 2024, where he underwent five weeks of basic training before serving as part of the military band at the Korea Military Academy.
While anticipation runs high for WOODZ’s upcoming music, here’s a playlist to mark his long-awaited return from the military:
