Actor Jang Dong Yoon is making his return—this time behind the camera.
On March 26, distributor Roadshow Plus announced that Jang Dong Yoon’s first feature film as a director, 'Nuruk,' will be released exclusively at Megabox theaters on April 15.
'Nuruk' marks Jang Dong Yoon’s debut as a feature-length director. The film tells the unique story of Dasul, an 18-year-old girl who loves makgeolli and is known as the daughter of a local brewery family. One day, she notices a change in the taste of the traditional rice wine and sets out to find the missing nuruk, its key fermentation ingredient.
The film has already gained attention after being invited to several major domestic film festivals, including the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, the Seoul Independent Film Festival, and the Ulju Mountain Film Festival. Director Lee Tae Dong, known for works such as 'Damn Good Company' and 'Mr. Kang,' participated as a producer, while actors Kim Seung Yoon, Song Ji Hyuk, and Park Myung Hoon appear in the film.

'Nuruk' is drawing further interest as it follows Jang Dong Yoon’s 2023 short film 'Please Be My Ear,' which marked his directorial debut. Though only 21 minutes long, the short film was self-funded and showcased his long-standing passion for filmmaking, having worked on screenwriting since his middle and high school years.
That passion is expected to carry over into 'Nuruk.' The recently released teaser poster has also caught attention, featuring the line, “Will I be able to find my world again?” alongside the protagonist Dasul tightly holding a bottle of makgeolli. Her deep, contemplative gaze sparks curiosity, while the contrast of a schoolgirl in uniform clutching a drink typically associated with adults hints at unpredictable events to come.
Although widely recognized as an actor, Jang Dong Yoon has an unusual path to stardom. While attending Hanyang University, he made headlines as a brave student who apprehended a convenience store robber. This incident caught the attention of an entertainment agency, ultimately leading to his debut in the industry.
Since then, Jang Dong Yoon has built a solid acting career, gaining recognition for his performances across various genres. He has appeared in dramas such as 'Daily Dose of Sunshine,' 'Like Flowers in Sand,' 'The Tale of Nokdu,' and 'Queen Mantis,' as well as films including 'Beautiful Days' and 'Project Wolf Hunting.'
