Rapper BewhY is once again at the center of debate after lyrics he performed during the semifinals of Mnet’s 'Show Me the Money 12' drew unexpected political interpretations online.
On March 26, BewhY appeared as a featured artist during OSUN’s performance of "W.I.N." Known for his distinctive rap style and philosophical lyrics, BewhY surprised viewers with a line that became the focus of controversy.
The line in question was “If you peel it all back you will be shocked my level is like a keen eye.” While the phrase originally references baseball, praising one’s sharp perception, its pronunciation during the live performance sounded similar to the Korean abbreviation for the National Election Commission sparking speculation.
The controversy grew because the preceding line “I dumped it because I praised equality over freedom my ex” seemed to evoke broader social discourse. Some viewers interpreted the lyrics as subtly referencing political issues or election fraud rather than being mere wordplay.
Reactions from audiences and online communities were divided. Supporters argued that the lines were a creative example of hip-hop double meaning while critics said the political undertones were inappropriate for a competitive stage. Questions arose about whether a featured artist’s personal views should overshadow the main performers OSUN, HAON, NOWIMYOUNG and MASON HOME as they competed for finals spots.
In the semifinals HAON claimed first place advancing directly to the finals while Tray B, NOWIMYOUNG, MASON HOME and MILL also secured places. The production team has not commented on the controversy and attention is turning to the Yes24 Live Hall concert scheduled for May 31.
