Mnet's 'Boys II Planet' is under fire yet again just after its second episode, aired on July 24 KST.

[SPOILERS AHEAD]

On this episode, the contestants of 'Boys II Planet K' began the grueling "signal song test", the main component of the second ranking evaluation where each contestant undergoes individual assessment by the program's coaches or "masters".

During the individual assessments, contestant Lee Hyeop, a member of DRIPPIN from Woollim Entertainment, demonstrated excellent vocal abilities but fell short in terms of dance. The masters decided to "defer" his ranking for the time being.

The final signal song test rankings were in fact decided by combining the assessment scores given by the masters (70%) and the performance assessment points given by the viewers, or the Star Creators (30%). The Star Creator points were determined based on the view counts and likes of each contestant's signal song fancam for "HOLA SOLAR".

After totaling the combined scores, a total of 17 contestants were eliminated during the "signal song test", including Lee Hyeop, whose overall program ranking according to the real-time votes was 13th place. Upon Lee Hyeop's elimination, fellow DRIPPIN member Kim Dong Yoon burst into tears.

However, viewers soon expressed bewilderment at Lee Hyeop's elimination, claiming that "there was no basis" behind the decision. Based on what was aired of his "signal song test" performance, the viewers noticed no grave mistake which could have proved detrimental to his assessment score. In fact, many viewers accused Mnet of "eliminating a main vocal candidate early on" to "get rid of competition for the program's favored main vocal candidate".

Korean netizens commented,

"They gave this guy one star when they gave that Yumeki guy all stars? Mnet quit rigging these programs for real.."
"Make it make sense because I literally cannot."
"He is the perfect main vocal so why??"
"Are they trying to debut a dance crew? That's why they eliminated this main vocal and gave that dancer all stars when he cannot carry a single tune??"
"If anyone still believes that Mnet audition programs have anything to do with fairness, they are just brainless."
"They just picked him off because he was a threat to Mnet's 'faves'."
"This entire thing is rigged. They already have the list of people who are going to debut. Do not get played by these scammers again."
"Mnet wanted Kang Woo Jin to be the main vocal, remember? They got rid of a strong main vocal contender early on kekekeke."
"And this is how Mnet kills dreams."
"No wonder Mnet audition program groups can't sing."
"They personally got rid of the strongest contender for main vocal kekekekeke. Who's gonna sing now?"
"Please shut down these unfair shows they are all rigged."

Meanwhile, Lee Hyeop previously appeared as a contestant on Mnet's 'Produce X 101' in 2019 as an individual trainee. After finishing 24th place overall, he was recruited by Woollim Entertainment, securing a spot in DRIPPIN by the group's debut in 2020.
