Graffiti defaming singer BoA has been appearing across central Seoul, alarming fans and prompting a police investigation. Channel A has obtained CCTV footage showing a possible suspect in the case.
The footage, recorded on June 5, shows a woman with a short bob haircut carrying a handbag as she walks along a busy street in Seoul's Gangnam district. She stops near a “No Parking” sign, pulls out a pen, and begins writing on it. Her actions draw the attention of nearby pedestrians, who pause to watch.
The suspect then continues down the street and is seen writing again—this time on an electric pole.
Similar graffiti has since been reported in multiple areas, including Gangnam and Gwangjin districts, appearing on locations such as bus stops and electronic billboards. Authorities have confirmed more than ten instances so far.
BoA’s agency has filed an official complaint, and police are actively pursuing the suspect. Based on the evidence, investigators believe the same individual is behind all the graffiti and are analyzing surveillance footage to trace her movements.
In the meantime, BoA's fans have been visiting the defaced locations themselves, scrubbing the graffiti off walls and covering it with paper where removal is difficult.
“There were more markings around the walls and even at nearby bus stops. I personally found four spots,” said one fan. “It looked like it was done with a permanent marker.”
Police are working to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the defamation campaign. The investigation is ongoing.
