JinJin (Park Jin-woo), leader and main rapper of K-pop group ASTRO, has been officially exempted from mandatory military service due to a medical condition.
On June 2, his agency Fantagio released a statement via ASTRO's official fan café, explaining, “JinJin has been deemed unfit for military service following a detailed physical examination by the Military Manpower Administration, due to health issues related to an autoimmune disorder.”
Fantagio further clarified, “While he does not have difficulties with daily life, he requires regular hospital visits for checkups and ongoing management. Based on the medical opinion that such specialized group living, like military service, would be difficult, he has received an exemption.”
The agency added, “We will continue JinJin’s activities with his health as our top priority. We sincerely thank the fans for their continued support and ask for ongoing interest in JinJin’s future endeavors.”
ASTRO debuted in February 2016 with the mini album 'Spring Up'. JinJin has played a key role in the group as both leader and main rapper. He also contributed to producing tracks such as the special 8th anniversary single “Circles” and the duet “Fly” with the late ASTRO member Moonbin, as well as his 2023 collaborative single “Wave in My Heart” featuring rapper YUNHWAY.
