The objection hearing regarding the injunction filed by ADOR to ban NewJeans from independent activities concluded in just 15 minutes, following the decision to approve the temporary injunction against the group.
On April 9, the 50th Civil Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Kim Sang Hoon) held a hearing for the five members of NewJeans regarding their objection to the temporary injunction. Unlike last month's hearing, this session was conducted behind closed doors at the request of the NewJeans members. The members themselves did not appear, and only their representatives were present.
The temporary injunction filed by ADOR prohibited NewJeans from engaging in various activities without ADOR’s approval, including songwriting, performing, broadcasting appearances, event participation, advertising contracts, and any commercial activities associated with their status as public figures in the entertainment industry.
The court had previously ruled that ADOR had not sufficiently proven that NewJeans' breach of the exclusive contract had led to irreparable damage to the mutual trust required for the continuation of the agreement. Based on this, the members immediately submitted an objection and announced on March 23 that they would temporarily halt their activities at an event in Hong Kong.
If the objection is not accepted, NewJeans' legal team plans to file an appeal in the second instance. ADOR's legal representative stated after the hearing that there had been no significant changes since the initial injunction decision, and the hearing ended after both parties presented their opinions. However, no additional details were shared due to the confidential nature of the session.
Previously, on March 21, the court had granted ADOR's injunction request, which included prohibiting NewJeans from engaging in any activities such as signing advertising contracts or participating in commercial ventures without ADOR’s consent.
