Wavve has officially announced the release of its first original drama, 'ONE: High School Heroes,' coming this May. Starring Lee Jung Ha and Kim Do Wan, the series is based on the popular webtoon ONE, which has amassed over 65 million views since its launch on Kakao Daum in 2019.
The story follows Lee Eui Gyeom, played by Lee Jung Ha, a top student who struggles under the pressure of his strict father. His life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Kang Yun Gi, portrayed by Kim Do Wan, a sharp and determined student who discovers Eui Gyeom’s hidden talent for fighting. Together, they form the masked duo known as "High School Heroes" and begin to shake up the violent hierarchy of their school.
The teaser poster features the two characters from behind, standing in a dimly lit, crumbling building. The gritty atmosphere captures the intensity of their world and hints at the battles ahead. The masked figures also stir curiosity about the secrets they are hiding and the journey they are about to take.
The original webtoon has gained a strong following for its thrilling action, unique storytelling, and well-developed characters. It received critical acclaim in 2020 when it won the 'Today’s Our Comics Award' and continues to be a fan favorite among readers of the genre.
Building on the success of 'Weak Hero Class 1,' Wavve is set to captivate viewers once again with another action-packed high school drama.
Lee Jung Ha, who rose to fame through his role in Disney+ series 'Moving,' plays the complex lead character who begins as a quiet and obedient student but gradually reveals his true strength as he confronts the school bullies. His transformation adds tension and excitement to the story.
Kim Do Wan, known for his roles in 'My Roommate Is a Gumiho,' 'Doona!,' and 'Wedding Impossible,' takes on the role of Kang Yun Gi. His character is both strategic and skilled in combat, guiding Eui Gyeom into the underground world of school fights while hiding his own motives.
Kim Sang Ho brings depth to the role of Kim Seok Tae, Eui Gyeom’s father. A successful businessman who appears kind on the outside, he pressures his son to become a doctor through strict and controlling parenting. His presence adds emotional weight to the storyline.
Kim Joo Ryung, widely recognized for her performances in 'Squid Game' and 'Queen of Tears,' plays Myung Da Bin, Eui Gyeom’s mother. Her character undergoes a transformation as she begins to stand up to her husband’s harsh discipline in order to protect their son.
The cast also includes Lim Sung Kyun as Kim Seung Jun, a powerful student figure who dominates both inside and outside the classroom. Yook Jun Seo, known from 'Single’s Inferno,' plays the mysterious transfer student Lee Geol Jae, a survivor of the infamous Moo Myeong High School. Yoo Hee Jae appears as Choi Ki Soo, a cold and calculating rival who poses a serious threat to the heroes.
The series is directed and adapted by Lee Sung Tae, known for his work on 'By Quantum Physics and Derailed.' With a strong cast, dynamic storyline, and a popular webtoon as its foundation, 'ONE: High School Heroes' is set to deliver a powerful and emotional viewing experience.
'ONE: High School Heroes' will be released exclusively on Wavve this May.
