Actors Byun Yo Han, Esom, Kim Jun Han, and Kim Jong Soo are set to headline a new crime drama, raising anticipation for the genre.
The film 'Ripples' (working title, directed by Kim Sun Kyung) tells the story of an uncontrollable chain of events that erupts over the fight for a new successor following the death of the eldest son of the Yedong Kwon family, a clan that has carried on a dangerous illegal business for generations.
Byun Yo Han takes on the role of Park Ki Tae, a man who has long handled various errands for the Yedong Kwon family. After the death of Kwon Do Young’s (played by Kim Jun Han) father, a close companion since childhood, Ki Tae steps forward to help ensure Do Young inherits the family position.
Esom plays Kwon So Hyun, the eldest daughter who left for Seoul to escape her family and their dangerous business. Upon returning after several years, she senses a shift in the family’s atmosphere and finds herself at the center of an unpredictable battle for succession.
Kim Jun Han portrays Kwon Do Young, the heir of the Yedong Kwon family. Though he is expected to take over the business after his father’s death, he struggles to gain recognition and faces doubt from the family elders. While he leans on his friend Park Ki Tae and his younger sister Kwon So Hyun, he harbors an inner ambition to prove himself as a capable businessman.
Kim Jong Soo joins the cast as Kwon Byung Ryeol, the younger uncle who covets the position of successor.
'Ripples' is the latest project from production company Star Platinum, which previously gained public acclaim with the Netflix film Good News. Rising director Kim Sun Kyung will both write and direct the film, marking her debut commercial feature.
Adding to the film’s intrigue, director Byun Sung Hyun, known for 'Good News' and 'The Merciless,' is participating as a co-writer, heightening the story’s genre-driven tension. The film has officially begun production this month and is slated for release next year.
