Sports Seoul has announced that the 'Seoul Music Awards' will now be held in June in time to commemorate the media outlet's 40th anniversary.
Traditionally held in January or February as a grand finale to the previous year, the 34th Seoul Music Awards will take place on June 21, 2025, at INSPIRE ARENA. This change marks a historic milestone for Sports Seoul and signals a fresh new beginning.
First launched in 1990 to promote popular music, the Seoul Music Awards has grown into the definitive stage for summarizing the Korean music industry each year. Over the past 30 years, it has been a cornerstone of the global K-pop phenomenon, bringing together the year’s most outstanding K-pop stars for a grand celebration.
Earlier in January, the Seoul Music Awards Organizing Committee selected a production company through an official bidding process to handle stage direction, live broadcasting, and on-site management. By partnering with a highly experienced production team, the awards show aims to deliver an even more dynamic and spectacular event for fans.
This year, the 'Seoul Music Awards' will take place at INSPIRE ARENA, one of South Korea’s most advanced performance venues, located in Yeongjong Island, Incheon. The show is expected to feature an upgraded stage design with stunning visuals and cutting-edge production.
More than 20 of the top K-pop artists will grace the stage, delivering a variety of performances and entertainment. The Organizing Committee confidently stated, “This year’s awards ceremony will showcase the most dynamic and visually striking performances ever, making it a must-watch event for fans.”
The 'Seoul Music Awards' is widely regarded as a key indicator of the year’s K-pop trends. At last year’s '33rd Seoul Music Awards,' held on January 2 at Rajamangala National Stadium in Thailand, NCT DREAM won the Grand Prize (Daesang). NewJeans took home the Best Digital Song Award, while Seventeen won the Best Album Award.
The Seoul Music Awards Organizing Committee stated, “Rescheduling the awards ceremony to June in honor of Sports Seoul’s 40th anniversary is a symbolic decision that reflects both our history and future. This year’s event will once again highlight K-pop’s global influence and provide a meaningful moment for fans and artists to come together.”
