The first half of 2023 has already passed, and broadcasting companies are gearing up to release a captivating lineup of new dramas in the coming second half of the year. 

The fresh slate of K-dramas premiering this July distinguishes itself with a diverse array of narratives. With enticing sequels to much-adored classics, inventive adaptations of popular webtoons, and the eagerly awaited comebacks of superstar actors, the lineup promises a dynamic month for drama enthusiasts.

To give you a glimpse into the excitement, here's an overview of the dramas currently airing or scheduled to air this month in chronological order.

Shadow Detective 2

The highly anticipated Disney+ drama 'Shadow Detective 2' is a captivating sequel to its predecessor, 'Shadow Detective,' which graced our screens in October 2022. This enthralling series revolves around the extraordinary journey of Kim Taek Rok (played by the talented Lee Sung Min), a seasoned detective with an impressive three-decade career. Despite nearing retirement, Kim Taek Rok's exceptional intuition and skill set brings him to an unexpected transfer to the female youth community, igniting a riveting narrative filled with twists and turns. The series has already aired on July 5, so don't miss out on the first few episodes.





Not Others

ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama, 'Not Others,' takes inspiration from the widely beloved webtoon of the same name, captivating audiences with its heartfelt exploration of family bonds. The series delves into the endearing yet complex dynamics between an inexperienced mother and her remarkable daughter. With an exceptional cast including Jeon Hye Jin, Sooyoung, Ahn Jae Wook, and Park Sung Hoon, the drama 'Not Others' promises an immersive viewing experience filled with captivating performances that bring the characters to life.

'Not Others' is set to air on July 17 following the series 'The Lies Hidden in My Garden.'


D.P. 2

The highly anticipated sequel, 'D.P. 2,' an original Netflix series, follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, 'D.P.,' which aired in 2021. The initial installment skillfully narrated the journey of Ahn Joon Ho (played by Jung Hae In) and Han Ho Yeol (portrayed by Koo Gyo Hwan) as members of the military desertion arrest team (D.P.). Their mission to apprehend deserters brought them face-to-face with the harsh realities and untold stories that unfolded along the way. 

Garnering widespread acclaim, the series powerfully captured the untold pain and struggles endured by soldiers, shedding light on an aspect of military life rarely explored by mainstream media. The remarkable impact of 'D.P.' was recognized at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards, where it earned the esteemed Best Picture Award, solidifying its place as an exceptional production.

'D.P. 2' will be returning to Netflix on July 28.

The Uncanny Counter 2

Get ready for an exhilarating continuation of the beloved series as tvN presents 'The Uncanny Counter 2' airing every Saturday and Sunday. This thrilling sequel follows the valiant demon hunters, known as 'Counters,' as they engage in epic battles against malevolent forces, all while maintaining their secret identities as noodle restaurant employees.

Returning to the series are the cast members Jo Byeong Kyu, Yoo Jun Sang, Kim Se Jeong, Eom Hye Ran, and Ahn Seok Hwan, who captivated viewers in the first season. Joining them in this new chapter are Jin Seon Kyu, Kang Ki Young, Kim Hieora, and Yoo In-soo, adding fresh energy to the mix. Notably, actor Jo Byeong Kyu, who took a hiatus following allegations of school violence in 2021, makes a highly meaningful comeback after two years.

My Lovely Liar

'My Lovely Liar'  delves into the intricate romance between Mok Sol Hee (played by the talented Kim So Hyun) and Kim Do Ha (portrayed by the charismatic Hwang Min Hyun). Buried with the ability to discern lies, Mok Sol Hee struggles to trust others, while Kim Do Ha, a gifted composer, conceals a mysterious past.

This compelling narrative explores the delicate dance between love and secrets as the two protagonists navigate their intertwined destinies. With Kim So Hyun's commanding portrayal of Mok Sol Hee and Hwang Min Hyun's mesmerizing performance as Kim Do Ha, the drama promises an immersive viewing experience filled with heartfelt moments and intriguing plot twists.

The new drama will be airing on July 31 at 8:50 pm on tvN.

I haven't watched the others yet, but I'm looking forward to the new seasons of 'D.P. and The Uncanny Counter.'
